WEE TODDLERS / TODDLERS
Moving, climbing and tumbling our toddlers are on the go at Little Tikes Academy.  Here at Little Tikes Academy our environment encourages the movement, exploration, climbing or just a place to relax in a teacher’s lap. We divide our toddler classroom into two classrooms to help accommodate the stark developmental differences in children between the ages of 15 to 24 months.

The Wee Toddlers, who have recently graduated from our older infant room, range in age from 15 to 18 months. They have recently learned to walk and are just beginning to learn some independence. They are also making the “big” transition from bottle to cup and from sleeping in a crib to napping on a floor mat. Our older toddler’s class ranges in age from 18 to 24 months and has become much more secure in their independence.

In both toddler rooms, the children are encouraged to become self-sufficient and develop cognitive skills through the guidance of our caregivers. The children are at an age when their gross\ fine motor skills along with their verbalization skills are developing. We meet the first challenge by filling the room with various manipulative and other equipment to help develop these skills. The second challenge is addressed through verbal interaction between child and teacher, which is facilitated through the use of books, puppets, and general daily communication.

At this age, children are introduced to the High Reach curriculum called “Cuddle Bugs”. Cuddle Bugs encourages your toddler to explore their world through exciting, and age-appropriate activities. A newsletter is sent home at the beginning of the month highlighting the theme and planned activities for each week. To help accentuate the curriculum we use of toys, storybooks, puppets and puzzles to help brain stimulation. The toddlers also have their own age appropriate playground that is equipped with Toddler Turf and rubberized mats. This playground is furnished with climbing equipment, slides, swings; riding and push toys which help develop their gross motor skills and expend some energy.
